A park in the city: Ginza Sony Park.

As you descend the stairs facing the street, the sounds of the bustling crowd gradually fade away. You catch glimpses of the structure from the Sony Building era and the blue tiles, while the breeze through the promenade invites you further underground.

How will artists and writers color this promenade?

In collaboration with poet Bin Sugawara, who has composed verses inspired by footage capturing the ongoing construction of Ginza Sony Park, we reveal the scenery as seen through his eyes.

"When the City Falls Asleep in Silver"

This is a poem written while listening to the city's breathing at this site, which at the time was still under construction. Wearing a helmet, there were days spent walking through the construction site as if tracing layers of the earth.

Throughout this building remain traces from generations past: blue tiles once buried within the walls, neon logos that illuminated Ginza in the Showa era. These fragments were carefully gathered one by one, and new layers of time were added upon them. I, too, reached out to the presence of both past and future and wove my words. The photographic and video record spanning two and a half years was created by Kyotaro Hayashi. I feel that his gaze gently guided the words of the poem.

Through the poems and photographs of this exhibition, I hope you will sense the contours of the overlapping time held within this place.

Please enjoy this quietly opened moment, offered as a space of pause within the city.

Program

From the early stages of Ginza Sony Park's construction, poet Bin Sugawara visited the site many times and documented its progress in a series of poems titled Construction Records. For this exhibition, selected memorable phrases from the poem are printed on soft fabric together with video scenes and displayed so as to guide visitors from the entrance of Ginza Sony Park down to the underground levels. In addition, the full poem is presented with video on the B1, where traces of the former Sony Building still remain.

Poet

In 2011, published the poetry collection "Naked on the Veranda / Rabbits and Women" with the American publisher PRE/POST.

Centering on writing activities such as poetry and essay serializations, their work extends across a wide range of expressive fields, including poetry readings on radio, lyric writing, collaborations with domestic and international brands, reading performances in Europe, the United States, and Russia, as well as exhibitions in galleries. They are also engaged in poetry projects related to regional revitalization and conduct workshops in welfare and social care settings.

Major publications include "Kanohito: A Freely Rendered Anthology of World Love Poetry" (Tokyo Shimbun), "Taking Off the Seasons, the Two of Us Dive" (Raitosha), and "Coffee Night Boat" (Raitosha).
